56 – Penny Dreadful

| Open Player in New Window

We finish up our salute to companions post-Who careers discussing Billie Piper and mostly her time on Penny Dreadful. Also, David Tennant drops by Stephen Colbert.

First we apologize for the technical difficulties on this episode. We lost about 90% of Melissa and the rest of what we got was really garbled. This also delayed the episode a huge deal as Andy tried several fixes and workarounds but mostly it just ended up an editing nightmare.

Basically the last two weeks have just been tricking Andy into watching Who-themed porn. Secret Life of a Call Girl. Billie Piper is now typecast as a ho.

Penny Dreadful is a great show. Why that accent? WHY?!?! Yes, its that bad. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: replace one James Bond with another.

Tennant on Colbert plays Whos on First. Cumberbatch.

Next week: Daleks!

55 – And Introducing Pearl Mackie as Bill

| Open Player in New Window

Apologies for the sound quality this episode. Next week well be much better, we PROMISE.

The new companion is Bill! Do we want more efficient Daleks? Thats a Prince t-shirt!!

Cosplay as Bill. Andy horribly explains the significance of wearing an afro as opposed to straightening your hair. Melissa explains it 800 times better. #AndySoWhite.

Please dont do blackface. Wigs yes, blackface no.

We all wore terrible things in the 80s. Andy still doesnt remember West End vs East End.

Melissa watched Svengali so you dont have to. Seriously, dont watch it for Pearl Mackie. Shes in it for 2 seconds. And its awful.

Freema Ageyman post Who. Sense 8. Wow, that first scene with her. Andy is uncomfortable. Mark loves the complexity. Andy and Melissa cant get in to it. Lost

Star Wars: The Force Awakens cameo. Joey Fatone? Law and Order UK.  We just wish we couldve done right by Martha in the show.

54 – The Catherine Tate Captain America Civil War Show

| Open Player in New Window

This week we talk Catherine Tate’s post-Who career, review The Jungle Book and Captain America: Civil War.

Andy and Mark saw The Jungle Book. Amazing looking. Fun for kids and adults. Amazing casting and voice work. Go see this!

Catherine Tate. Not much that weve seen because its a lot of BBC made for tv movies we cant get. Gullivers Travels.  The Office. We mostly just end up talking about the British Office vs American Office rather than Catherine Tate.

Minor plot spoilers for Civil War. SPIDER-MAN. Stealing the movie. Black Panther. Ryan Coogler. Vision and Scarlet Witch. His sweaters are on point. John Slattery. Flashbacks to Back to School.  No, you move.

53 – Legends of Rory

| Open Player in New Window

Were back! Andy was in the hospital. But he got better. We talk about a possible new companion casting and a lot about Arthur Darvills post-Who career, including minor spoilers for the most recent episodes of DCs Legends of Tomorrow. You’ll want to be here next week.

Possible new companion casting: Rakhee Thakrar, who was previously on EastEnders. Why we want a person of color as the companion. Bring me the female woman of color! Star Wars: Rogue One trailer. Why do we continue to need to have these conversations in 2016?

Arthur Darvill: our favorite New Who male companion.

Broadchurch. It was cool the Doctor and Rory, but yet not. Great to see him be under suspicion as the priest, but he was great. Did anyone see him as Mephistopheles in Doctor Faustus? No, but we want to. DCs Legends of Tomorrow- the heart of the show is Rip Hunter and time travel. The last two episodes got good again. Minor spoilers- is he willing to kill a child to save his wife and daughter? It cant become the villains Captain Cold and Heatwave power hour.

Next week well talk Captain America: Civil War after Melissa sees it. Shes definitely Team Cap. Cap v Iron Man v Batman v Superman. Well talk Jungle Book and Criminal maybe.

52 – FanX Ultimate Who Xperience

| Open Player in New Window

We are at the Salt Lake Comic Con FanXperience where it is Ultimate Who time! All of our (ok, pretty much just Marks) experiences with meeting Doctors, River, and more!

Mark started the con with Peter Davison, who literally had the first panel! Karma in killing off companions. Sylvester McCoy did his panel from the floor, theater-in-the-round style! Hobbit/Lord of the Rings stories. Matt Smith and Alex Kingston! Matt tells a dirty joke.

And more! Have a listen!

51 – We Loved Selfie

| Open Player in New Window

We talk about leaf blowers, a possible new companion for The Doctor, and a retrospective on Karen Gillans post-Who career.

Karen Gillan. Guardians of the Galaxy. Selfie. Why no love for John Cho? Star Trek.  In a Valley of Violence.

New companions? Genders. Non-gendered? A person of color. A Muslim. Britain First. Just something different. Dont do it to be political, but the casting will be political in its implications.

50 – A Very Matt Smith Anniversary

| Open Player in New Window

Its the anniversary of our first show!  We talk some Doctor Who News and then continue talking about the post-Who career of Matt Smith.
Capaldi has been asked to stick around for another year. Good idea or bad idea?

Bryan Blessed wants to be The Doctor. Mark and Andy do Bryan Blessed impressions. Mostly Boss Nass. Why that would be dumb to bring into Doctor Who. Easter Eggs vs. Fanservice.

Matt Smiths post-Doctor career. Party Animals. Has anyone actually seen Lost River? Terminator: Genisys not Matthew Smiths fault. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The Lake Silencio version. What would we fan-cast Matt Smith as? The Flash, Marvel, definitely a villain, maybe a tv show?

Andy and Marks adventures at Salt Lake Comic Con: Fan Xperience. You can see the panels Andy is on here.

Our anniversary. Why Andy built diversity into the podcast from the start. Why its not the same without Mark and Melissa.
